Issuing Iraqi birth certificate
Authentication:
The American Brith certificate must be authenticated by the state government (Office of Secretary of State) and submission of two (2) colored copies of the authenticated Birth certificate in addition to the original.
• Civil Status (Identification) or Unified National (Identification Card) for the father and the mother, two (2) colored copies.
• Birth certificate form translated into the Arabic language.
• If the marital status in the record does not match, please send either an Iraqi marriage contract Authenticated by the Iraqi ministry of Foreign Affairs or an American marriage contract authenticated by the (Office of Secretary of State), two colored copies.
Note: Authentication fees ($15) will be conducted.
Fees required for issuing an Iraqi Birth certificate for births registered before 09/23/2024. Based on Article fifteen (B/2) of the former birth and death registration law No. (148) of 1971 as amended.
1- A fee of fifteen USD ($15) is collected in cash for the authentication of the American birth certificate.
2- A fee of twenty-four USD (24$) in cash shall be collected for issuing an Iraqi birth certificate for each newborn, provided that the application is submitted within a maximum period of (60 days) from the date of birth.
3- A late fee (penalty) of nine USD ($9) payable in cash, shall be imposed when application submitted after (60 days) from the date of birth.
Fees required for issuing an Iraqi Birth certificate for births registered after 09/23/2024 as updated pursuant to the Birth and Death Registration law no. (21) of 2024, published in the official gazette of the Republic of Iraq (al-Waqa’i Al-Iraqiya), issue no. 4794 dated 09/23/2024 and with reference to the instructions issued by the Ministry of Health – Planning and Resource Development department, concerning the applicable fees and late penalties listed below:
1- A fee of fifteen USD ($15) shall be collected in cash for the authentication of the American birth certificate.
2- A fee of twenty-four USD (24$) in cash shall be collected for issuing an Iraqi birth certificate for each newborn, provided that the application is submitted within a maximum period of (60 days) from the date of birth
3- A late penalty of twenty USD ($20) payable in cash shall be imposed if the application is submitted after sixty (60) days from the date of birth and up to the first six (6) months. This penalty shall be applied once only.
4- An additional late penalty of fifty-eight USD ($58), payable in cash, shall be imposed for each month if the application is submitted after the expiration of the initial six-month period from the date of birth, as referred to in the third paragraph above ( shall be calculated for each month, starting from the date of birth.
Important Notice to Applicants.
• All required documents must be submitted by prepaid mail (return envelope) for the purpose of returning the documents to the relevant parties ensuring that correct and complete address is clearly written
• Applicants must complete the birth certificate information from the link (https://icass.mofa.gov.iq/#/newbirth) and provide the consular section with a copy of (barcode) application.
• Applicants are required to book an appointment in advance through the Link (https://icass.mofa.gov.iq/#/) and provide the consular section with a copy of the barcode.
