Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in London Commemorates the 17th Anniversary of the Foreign Ministry Bombing

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the United Kingdom—joined by embassy staff, technical attachés, and the director of the Iraqi Cultural Centre—held a memorial service marking the seventeenth anniversary of the terrorist bombing that targeted the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Baghdad on August 19, 2009.

The ceremony commenced with a minute of silence and the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha in remembrance of the souls of the martyrs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all the martyrs of Iraq.

His Excellency Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, delivered a speech on the occasion, honouring the Ministry’s martyrs who lost their lives in the terrorist attack. He reaffirmed the commitment to honouring their sacrifices and recognising the dedication they demonstrated in fulfilling their national and diplomatic duties. His Excellency emphasised that their memory would remain firmly embedded in the collective consciousness of the Ministry’s staff, and that Iraq’s diplomatic service has continued its work with determination and steadfastness despite the attacks and challenges it has faced.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for mercy and forgiveness for the martyrs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all the martyrs of Iraq, honouring their sacrifices and enduring legacy, and with prayers that Almighty God grant Iraq and its people lasting security, stability and prosperity.
