Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in London Participates in Academic Event Organised by the Iraqi Academic Youth Association UK

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in London participated in an academic event organised by the Iraqi Academic Youth Association UK (IAYA UK) under the title “Opportunity Changes Everything”. The event was held at the headquarters of the Human Dialogue Foundation in London and featured Professor Sir Bashir M. Al-Hashimi, Vice-President for Research and Innovation at King’s College London.

Professor Sir Bashir Al-Hashimi was honoured by the Embassy during the visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom in January of last year, in recognition of his distinguished scientific achievements and as a testament to the success of members of the Iraqi community in the United Kingdom. He was awarded a knighthood in His Majesty The King’s 2025 Honours List and had previously been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2018.

Representing the Embassy on this occasion, Counsellor Amer Abdulhussein Al-Fatlawi attended on behalf of His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom. In his remarks, he conveyed the Ambassador’s greetings and best wishes for the success of the event, praising the important role played by Iraqi academics and professionals abroad in supporting development and innovation and in enhancing Iraq’s scientific and cultural standing internationally.

The event was attended by a number of Iraqi academics, researchers, and students residing in the United Kingdom. During his lecture, Professor Sir Bashir Al-Hashimi highlighted the importance of seizing opportunities and their role in achieving academic and professional excellence, drawing upon his extensive experience in the fields of scientific research and innovation.

At the conclusion of the event, participants underscored the importance of sustaining communication and cooperation between Iraqi academic institutions and Iraqi expertise abroad in a manner that serves Iraq and supports the advancement of scientific progress.
