Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in London Meets UK Minister of State for Borders and Immigration

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr Salih Hussein Ali Al-Tamimi, met with Mr Alex Norris MP, Minister of State for Borders and Immigration, to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Iraq and the United Kingdom in the fields of security, economy and immigration.

During the meeting, both sides affirmed the importance of developing bilateral relations across various sectors, particularly in the areas of border security, combating organised crime, human trafficking networks and cross-border terrorist crimes. The discussions also addressed enhancing economic relations and attracting British investment to Iraq, with a focus on expanding partnerships with both the public and private sectors.

His Excellency highlighted the importance of establishing an effective mechanism to facilitate the issuance of entry visas for Iraqi nationals, in a manner that would contribute to expediting visa procedures for official and economic figures, investors, entrepreneurs, academics and doctors, as well as participants in conferences and events held in the United Kingdom. He stressed the need to strengthen coordination and joint cooperation between the relevant authorities in both countries.

The British Minister commended the positive role played by the Iraqi community within British society, particularly in the healthcare sector, public services and trade. He also underscored the importance of friendship and cooperation between the two countries in addressing global challenges. In addition, he referred to the United Kingdom’s new visa issuance system and the greater efficiency it provides in managing visa applications.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the importance of continuing cooperation and joint coordination in the fields of security, economy, investment and migration in a manner that serves the interests of the two friendly countries.
