Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom Discusses Strengthening Economic and Investment Cooperation with the Iraq Britain Business Council

His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, held a virtual meeting with the Iraq Britain Business Council to discuss avenues for enhancing economic and investment relations between Iraq and the United Kingdom.
During the meeting, His Excellency underscored the importance of sustaining economic cooperation between the two countries. He reviewed recent political developments in Iraq, including the imminent completion of the formation of the new government, and emphasised the importance of supporting regional stability and its positive impact on the business and investment environment, particularly in the fields of energy and strategic projects.
The meeting also addressed the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Iraq and the United Kingdom. His Excellency explained that the agreement will enter into force upon completion of ratification procedures, noting the establishment of a specialised committee within the Office of the Prime Minister to oversee its implementation, in a manner that strengthens economic cooperation and advances financial and developmental reforms.
His Excellency expressed Iraq’s aspiration to expand cooperation with British institutions, including UK Export Finance, and to support efforts aimed at improving the business environment, governance, and transparency. He also highlighted the importance of resuming direct flights between Iraq and the United Kingdom to facilitate the movement of business leaders and companies.
The meeting featured an interactive discussion covering a number of economic and regional issues, including Iraqi oil exports, Iraq–Türkiye relations, and Iraq’s role in promoting regional stability. Discussions also addressed transport and energy projects, maritime cooperation, and the potential signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Iraqi Ministry of Transport and the Iraq Britain Business Council.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in London and the Iraq Britiain Business Council, in a manner that supports economic development and encourages investment and strategic partnerships in Iraq.
