Iraq Participates in Meetings of the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds in London

Iraq is participating in the meetings of the governing bodies of the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds), held on 7 and 8 May 2026 at the organisation’s headquarters in London, with the participation of member states, observer states, and a number of relevant international organisations.
The meetings include the 30th extraordinary session of the 1992 Fund Assembly, the 86th session of the Executive Committee of the 1992 Fund, and the 14th extraordinary session of the Supplementary Fund Assembly.
Discussions focus on key issues relating to the international liability and compensation regime for oil pollution damage, covering procedural matters, incidents, compensation matters, and treaty-related matters.
The governing bodies of the IOPC Funds meet two or three times per year to take decisions regarding the administration of the organisation and to strengthen the international compensation framework for maritime oil pollution incidents.
Iraq is represented at these meetings by the Iraqi Maritime Attaché, Captain Mazin Al-Kaabi, and First Secretary Alyaa Ihsan Al-Sayegh, who is responsible for the International Organisations and Multilateral Relations within the Political Section of the Embassy
