Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in London Hosts Specialised Diplomatic Workshop on the British Political Landscape
The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the United Kingdom organised a specialised diplomatic workshop at the Iraqi Cultural Centre in London. The session was delivered by Mr Rehman Chishti, former Minister of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Member of Parliament, and former UK Special Envoy. The workshop was attended by His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, along with embassy staff, the Cultural and Military Attachés, and the Director of the Iraqi Cultural Centre. The event was held as part of ongoing efforts to exchange expertise and enhance institutional capacity.
The workshop covered a range of key themes, including analysis and interpretation of the current British political landscape, mechanisms for engaging with decision-makers and members of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, as well as approaches to building relationships with influential stakeholders, think tanks, research institutions, and political parties across the United Kingdom.
The speaker also reviewed recent developments within the British political environment, including the outcomes of general and local elections. In addition, he provided insights into the functioning of parliamentary committees concerned with foreign affairs, defence, trade, science, and domestic security, with particular focus on issues relevant to Iraq and Iraqi–British bilateral relations.
The workshop featured interactive sessions and practical exercises centred on public speaking, effective communication, rapid thinking, and the formulation of impactful diplomatic messaging.
At the conclusion of the workshop, His Excellency the Ambassador and participants expressed their appreciation for the high-quality training content, which offered a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms of British political engagement. They also underscored the importance of strengthening diplomatic communication tools in a manner that serves the shared interests of the two friendly nations
