Military Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq Participates in International Conference on Safeguarding Freedom of Navigation in the Strait of Hormuz

The Military Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Commodore Abdulhussein Alak Al-Maliki, participated in an international conference held at the headquarters of the Permanent Joint Headquarters in Northwood, north of London. The conference was dedicated to discussing ways to enhance freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and brought together military planners and representatives from more than 30 countries.

The conference was convened within the framework of the joint leadership of the United Kingdom and France of a multinational coalition aimed at reopening the Strait. Its proceedings focused on developing joint military plans to enable the resumption of maritime navigation at the earliest possible opportunity, once appropriate conditions are in place following the conclusion of a sustainable ceasefire agreement.

These efforts are further informed by the outcomes of the recent international summit held in Paris, with the participation of 51 countries, which underscored the need to reopen the Strait without delay and to strengthen international cooperation to ensure the security of vital maritime corridors.

The two-day conference aims to coordinate international efforts and establish practical mechanisms for the protection of commercial vessels and the conduct of mine clearance operations, thereby contributing to the smooth flow of global trade and supporting the stability of energy markets and the international economy in light of current challenges
