Iraq Participates in the Fourth Assembly of the International Hydrographic Organization in Monaco
The Republic of Iraq participated in the proceedings of the Fourth Assembly of the International Hydrographic Organization, held in Monaco from 20 to 23 April 2026, with broad participation from Member States.
The opening session was attended by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco. During the ceremony, the flags of six newly acceded countries were presented, marking their admission as full members in accordance with established procedures.
The International Hydrographic Organization, founded in 1921, was joined by Iraq in 2023, when it attained full membership following its earlier participation as an observer. The Organization’s objectives include ensuring the conduct of hydrographic surveys across all seas, oceans and navigational waterways, and the production of the necessary nautical charts, thereby contributing to the enhancement of maritime safety and security at the international level.
The delegation of the Republic of Iraq was headed by Captain Mazin Al-Kaabi, Maritime Attaché and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the International Maritime Organization, who took part in the Assembly’s deliberations.
