Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to London Receives Former British Ambassador to Iraq Jon Wilks to Discuss Strengthening Economic Cooperation
In the context of supporting bilateral relations and expanding the horizons of economic partnership, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, received the former British Ambassador to Iraq, Jon Wilks, currently an adviser to the Iraqi British Business Council, at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in London.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance economic and trade cooperation between Iraq and the United Kingdom. They reviewed promising investment opportunities in the Iraqi market, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, and services sectors, underscoring the importance of developing the business environment in a manner that attracts British companies and strengthens their presence in Iraq.
Discussions also addressed the broader economic situation in Iraq and the reforms being pursued by the Government to support economic growth and diversify sources of income. The meeting further examined challenges facing trade cooperation and explored ways to address them in a manner that serves mutual interests.
Ambassador Al-Tamimi reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening its relations with the United Kingdom, highlighting the important role played by economic institutions, particularly the Iraqi British Business Council, in fostering communication between the business communities of both countries.
Ambassador Wilks expressed the growing interest of British companies in the Iraqi market, affirming their readiness to contribute to development and investment projects in a way that enhances bilateral economic cooperation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasised the importance of intensifying exchanges of visits between official delegations and business leaders, and of organising joint economic events to advance trade and investment cooperation and further strengthen the strategic partnership between Iraq and the United Kingdom
