Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in London Holds Lecture on Diplomatic Immunities for its Staff

Under the direction of His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in London organised an educational lecture entitled “Recent Trends in British Court Practice on Diplomatic Immunities in Light of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and Iraqi Practice” for staff members across of all levels within the mission. The lecture was delivered by Second Secretary Mohammed Nahidh Abdul Razzaq Al-Awadi, as part of the Embassy’s commitment to keeping its staff informed of legal developments within the mission’s area of work and Iraq’s practice of non-waiver of State and diplomatic immunity.
The lecture, attended by His Excellency the Ambassador and members of the mission from both the diplomatic and administrative positions, addressed the most significant recent judicial trends in British courts, including the expansion of exceptions to diplomatic immunities in the United Kingdom, as well as Iraqi practice in light of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. It also highlighted the key steps to be followed and matters to be avoided upon receipt of service of process by a member of the foreign service, in order to prevent any waiver of diplomatic immunity.
His Excellency the Ambassador commended the lecture and the valuable information it provided, while also expressing appreciation for the staff’s engagement and participation. He underscored the importance of continuing to organise such events, which enhance staff awareness of legal developments relating to immunities that serve as a legal safeguard for personnel.
This lecture forms part of the Embassy’s ongoing educational and training activities aimed at developing staff capabilities and fostering a working environment that is consistent with international conventions and in compliance with local laws.
