Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in London Meets UK Minister of State for Defence

Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, met at the UK Ministry of Defence with Lord Vernon Coaker, Minister of State for Defence, responsible for international relations, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
At the outset of the meeting, Lord Coaker expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the Ambassador for his attendance, reaffirming the United Kingdom’s continued support for the Republic of Iraq and noting that Iraq’s stability is a key factor in achieving regional stability.
His Excellency the Ambassador conveyed his gratitude and appreciation to Lord Coaker for the opportunity to hold this meeting, emphasising Iraq’s aspiration to establish strong bilateral relations, particularly with the United Kingdom, given its active and influential diplomatic role on the international stage. He further noted that enhancing joint cooperation with the United Kingdom constitutes a strategic objective of the Iraqi Government.
His Excellency reaffirmed the Iraqi Government’s commitment to ensuring the protection of diplomatic missions operating in Iraq, as a fundamental priority. He outlined Iraq’s position calling for the prevention of escalation and its rejection of the use of its territory or airspace for any hostile acts against neighbouring countries and the wider region, as well as its call for an immediate ceasefire in a manner that contributes to strengthening security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of continuing bilateral coordination and cooperation in a way that serves to achieve security and stability in the region.
