As part of ongoing efforts to enhance engagement with members of the Iraqi community and to broaden prospects for scientific and professional cooperation, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, held a series of meetings with a number of prominent Iraqi figures and institutions in London.

His Excellency received at the Embassy Mr Jabbar Hassan, Director of the Iraqi Forum in London, along with his accompanying delegation. Discussions focused on the Forum’s role in providing social and legal services and advisory support to members of the Iraqi community. His Excellency commended the Forum’s voluntary efforts, noting that the community is rich in distinguished scientific and cultural talent that contributes to strengthening Iraq’s presence across various fields. The meeting also addressed key challenges facing the community and explored the possibility of organising an Iraqi community conference by the Forum, in addition to reviewing the activities of the Seniors Club and the Women’s Club. Members of the delegation, in turn, expressed their appreciation for the level of consular services provided by the Embassy.

In a related context, His Excellency met with Ambassador Mohammed Al-Eshaikar and former Consul at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in London, Dr Abdul Hamid Al-Eshaikar. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange professional and diplomatic expertise gained during their service at the Iraqi Embassy in London. Discussions included a detailed review of the principal challenges encountered at different stages of diplomatic work and the mechanisms adopted to address them, as well as consideration of best practices in managing consular and diplomatic functions and improving services provided to citizens.

The meeting underscored the importance of drawing on the cumulative experience of former diplomats in supporting the work of diplomatic missions and strengthening institutional performance, thereby enhancing the efficiency of diplomatic staff and advancing the mission’s strategic and service objectives. Emphasis was placed on the need to transfer knowledge and expertise to younger cadres and to promote a culture of institutional work grounded in planning and continuous evaluation.

His Excellency also met with Dr Miqdad Ghazi Jamal, Technology Director and Business Development Director for the Digital Engineering Group at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). The meeting explored avenues for scientific and technical cooperation, particularly in the fields of advanced manufacturing, digital engineering, artificial intelligence and cyber security. The Centre is recognised as one of the United Kingdom’s leading applied research institutions, playing a pivotal role in supporting industrial transformation and accelerating the transfer of research outputs into industrial applications.

The meeting further reviewed Dr Miqdad’s experience in leading innovation and development programmes, his role in the academic supervision of postgraduate students, and his efforts in building strategic partnerships between academic and industrial institutions. Discussions also addressed his contributions to the transfer and localisation of advanced technologies in Iraq through collaborative projects with several government institutions, supporting the development of technological capabilities and the enhancement of digital infrastructure.

During these meetings, His Excellency the Ambassador reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to openness and engagement with Iraqi expertise in the United Kingdom, and to strengthening cooperation across scientific, technical and social fields in a manner that serves mutual interests and supports Iraq’s development trajectory.
