Iraq Participates in International Maritime Organization Working Group Meetings

The Permanent Representation of the Republic of Iraq to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) participated in the working group meetings conducting a comprehensive review of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).

The meetings discussed a number of issues related to the development of standards for seafarer training and certification procedures, in line with the latest developments in the maritime transport sector. The Working Group also addressed several important matters, including training seafarers in the operation of ship ballast water management systems, as well as issues related to promoting a safe and professional working environment for seafarers.

The proposed review also examined the updating of standards related to training simulators used in the training of ship crews, particularly bridge simulators and engine control room simulators.

The outcomes and recommendations of the Working Group will be submitted to the Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping, which operates under the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization, in preparation for their consideration and the adoption of the necessary measures.
