Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in London Meets UK Labour MP and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Iraq (APPG Iraq)

His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, received Mr Sadik Al-Hassan at the Embassy in London, Member of the UK Parliament for the Labour Party and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Iraq (APPG Iraq).

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, as well as a number of issues of mutual interest. His Excellency emphasised Iraq’s pride in its long-standing historical relations with the United Kingdom and its commitment to further developing them. He also commended the role of the Parliamentary Friendship Group between the legislatures of both countries in enhancing communication between the Iraqi Council of Representatives and the UK Parliament, highlighting the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting avenues of political, economic and cultural cooperation.

Both sides underscored the importance of activating the exchange of parliamentary visits, deepening institutional dialogue, sharing expertise, strengthening frameworks for bilateral cooperation, and following up on the implementation of joint agreements. They also agreed to expand the membership of APPG Iraq by attracting additional Members of Parliament from across different political parties, thereby increasing its membership and reinforcing its role in consolidating Iraqi–British relations.

The meeting also addressed the latest political and security developments at the regional and international levels. Both sides stressed the importance of making exceptional efforts to support deescalation efforts and negotiations among the parties to conflicts in the Middle East, in a manner that contributes to achieving stability and a just and lasting peace in the region and the wider world.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation in order to expand the horizons of partnership and cooperation between the two countries across political, economic, security and cultural fields.
