The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in London Meets Under-Secretary of State (Middle East) at the UK Foreign Office
His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, met with the Rt Hon Hamish Falconer MP, Minister for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, on 26 February 2026 at the Foreign Office in London.
During the meeting, the Minister welcomed the Ambassador and expressed his wishes for every success in carrying out his new diplomatic duties. He reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to continuing to strengthen and develop its relations with the Republic of Iraq across various fields.
The meeting reviewed the overall bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, particularly prospects for political, economic and security cooperation, in addition to following up on the implementation of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement signed on the sidelines of the visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani, to the United Kingdom at the beginning of 2025.
The two sides also discussed the importance of the United Kingdom continuing its pivotal role in regional stability in the Middle East and globally, through adopting diplomatic solutions, supporting dialogue, respecting international law, and working with international partners to prevent the escalation of conflicts and their repercussions for international peace and security. This includes continuing efforts to eliminate the terrorist organisation Daesh, strengthening joint cooperation in the field of security and stability, addressing challenges, and emphasising the importance of bilateral cooperation in the areas of economic and cultural collaboration, facilitating visa issuance, migration and border security, in a manner consistent with the depth of the historical ties and shared interests of the two friendly countries.
Concluding the meeting, both sides agreed on the importance of continuing bilateral coordination and consultation, and enhancing joint cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Counsellor Ayman Dhaif, Head of Protocol at the Embassy, and Counsellor Ahmed Mahdi Salih from the Political Section. From the British side, the meeting was attended by Mr Shahen Dalia, Head of the Iraq Team at the Foreign Office, and Mr Asher Spencer, Political and Human Rights Officer.
