The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) deposits the Load Lines Convention and its 1988 Protocol with the IMO Secretariat.

As part of the continued efforts by the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the United Kingdom and the Maritime Attaché to fulfill Iraq’s obligations towards the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the IMO has deposited the 1966 Load Lines Convention and its 1988 Protocol with the IMO Secretariat after completing the legislative procedures.
Over the past two years, Iraq has delivered eighteen maritime agreements and protocols, the most recent being the aforementioned convention. Additionally, a number of workshops and training programs for experts from relevant maritime authorities have been organized. With this, Iraq has completed its accession to all relevant conventions and protocols in preparation for the mandatory audit of IMO member states (IMSAS), which will take place in November of this year. This audit will cover Iraq’s maritime sector under the supervision of experts from the IMO, as part of efforts to re-include Iraq in the IMO’s White List of member states.
