Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the United Kingdom Holds a Celebration on the Occasion of Victory Day and the Centenary of Iraqi Diplomacy

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the United Kingdom held a celebration marking the seventh anniversary of Victory Day over the ISIS terrorist groups and the centenary of Iraqi diplomacy, at the Embassy in London, on Tuesday 10th December 2024.

The celebration began with the playing of the Iraqi national anthem and the recitation of Al-Fatiha in honor of the souls of Iraq’s righteous martyrs, who sacrificed their pure blood for the sacred soil of Iraq. Their souls ascended to the highest ranks, alongside the prophets, the righteous, the martyrs, and the pious, and they were indeed the best companions.

On behalf of the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Mr. Mohammed Jaafar Al-Sadr, the Consul, Mr. Mohamad Jawad Al-Eshaikar, delivered the speech of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Fuad Hussein, which had been delivered at a ceremony held by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs to mark the centenary of its establishment. The speech highlighted the role of Iraqi diplomacy in preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and its national interests since the founding of the Ministry in 1924, as well as its efforts over the years to strengthen diplomatic relations with countries worldwide. The speech also emphasised key achievements over the past two decades, including the restoration of Iraq’s status in the United Nations and other international organizations, the implementation of government program measures, the opening of foreign missions within Iraq, the recovery of hundreds of cultural artefacts, Iraq’s gaining of international and regional positions, and other significant accomplishments.

Following this, two documentaries were shown. The first covered the history of Iraqi diplomacy from the establishment of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1924 to the present day, while the second film focused on the achievements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was titled: “Iraqi Diplomacy… A Century of Challenges and Achievements.” During the celebration, two postal stamps issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Communications were also displayed to commemorate the centenary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The first stamp featured an image of Dr. Muhammad Fadel Al-Jamali, a key figure in the history of Iraqi diplomacy, as he was one of the signatories of the founding charter of the United Nations in 1945. The second stamp highlighted the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at its establishment in 1924, alongside an image of its current building.
