The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom receives the Head of the Iraqi Doctors Association and his accompanying delegation

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Mr. Mohammad Jaafar Al-Sadr, received the Head of the Iraqi Medical Association, Dr. Hassanein Shubar, in his office at the embassy on Monday, 23/09/2024.

The meeting discussed a number of topics related to Iraqi doctors working in the United Kingdom, especially since they are now ranked second in membership in the British Royal College of Medicine after Indian doctors.

The Head of the association pointed out that there are a number of Iraqi doctors in the United Kingdom who wish to provide many medical services to their people inside Iraq, yet many challenges face them; most notably the issue of equivalency of their certificates and mechanisms for entry into the Iraqi health system. The Head of Association is urging the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to exempt graduates of established British universities from some equivalency requirements so that they can join the health service inside Iraq.

Ambassador Al-Sadr welcomed the distinguished guests, praising the Iraqi doctors who always prove that they are worthy of raising the name of Iraq in all countries of the world, especially in the United Kingdom. Almost no hospital or health center in the United Kingdom is devoid of an Iraqi doctor. The Ambassador expressed the embassy’s readiness and support for concluding cooperation agreements and exchanging experiences between the British health system and Iraqi health authorities. The meeting also discussed the importance of holding an expanded medical conference for communication between the various generations of Iraqi doctors working in Britain, and with doctors inside Iraq.

The meeting was attended by:

  • First Deputy of Head of the Iraqi Medical Association, Dr. Jamal Abdel Zahra.
  • Second Deputy of Head of the Iraqi Medical Association, Dr. Hadi Salman.
  • Member of the Iraqi Medical Association Dr. Wesal Khaled.
  • President of the Iraqi Society for Medical Research and Studies, Dr. Dergham Aref Al-Ajwady.
