Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil holds a number of meetings on the sidelines of the Iraq-Britain Business Council (IBBC) conference

On the sidelines of his participation in the Iraq-Britain Business Council (IBBC) conference held in London, the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Mr. Hayyan Abdul Ghani Al-Sawad, held important talks with the Vice President of BP for Gas and Low Carbon Energy Affairs, Mr. William Lin, at the company’s headquarters in London on Tuesday, 02/07/2024, in the presence of the Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Dr. Ahmed Al-Jubouri.

The Deputy Prime Minister praised the fruitful and continuous cooperation with BP, which culminated in the production of more than one million and four hundred thousand barrels per day, expressing the desire of the Iraqi government to expand the company’s work in Iraq, taking into account the need to include gas and oil investment together in future contracts, in line with Iraq’s commitments regarding reducing carbon emissions.

For his part, the Vice President of BP confirmed its desire to develop work with Iraq, and that it is determined to shift from negotiations to serious and actual work, especially with regard to investment in Kirkuk oil fields.

It was agreed to hold a new and decisive round of negotiations in Baghdad this July.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil also visited the company’s headquarters the next day to see the simulation of extractive, refining and other works.

In a related context, Mr. Al-Sawad met with a number of representatives of Iraqi and British companies participating in the conference: (TOTAL, BGC, EY, Hogan Lovells, SCB, CJ ICM, Martrade, Vitol, Sabis, AAA).
