His Excellency Ambassador Mohammad Jaafar Al-Sadr met with Mrs. Janet Rogen, COP26 Regional Ambassador for the Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia via Zoom on 15th April 2021.
During the meeting, they discussed the preparations underway to participate in the Climate Summit (COP26), which will be held in Glasgow, in November 2021.
H.E. Ambassador Al-Sadr appreciated the efforts of the United Kingdom to ensure the success of the summit, which aims to unify international efforts to increase the ability to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change and foster climate resilience, affirming Iraq’s tendency towards a new era of support for renewable energies and moving towards taking adequate steps to respond to climate changes by starting to write the National Deemed Contributions (NDCs) to Climate Change in the country in partnership with the United Nations and to start working to establish projects that depend on alternative energy.
For her part, Regional Ambassador Janet Rogen praised the role of Iraq’s parliament in voting for Iraq’s accession to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Mrs. Janet considered the commencement of writing the NDCs, by the Iraqi government to be presented during COP26, is fundamental in the international climate action’s effort. Mrs. Janet affirmed the UK’s readiness to provide the necessary support to Iraq in order to complete the document and to take the pertinent measures to protect the environment.
