CMEC hosted a virtual meeting with Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister H.E Dr Ali Allawi to discuss the wider political and economical reforms in Iraq.
The virtual meeting which took place on Wednesday, February 24th 2021 highlighted and discussed the challenges and opportunities of the current political and economical reforms in Iraq including the White Paper through efforts by the Iraqi Government to build a more sustainable Iraq.
In answering a variety of questions, His Excellency discussed: the current political and economic situation of Iraq, the Iraqi-Iranian relationship in context of the wider region,The economical outlook for Iraq’s future, with institutional reforms to avert future economic and fiscal crisis, Iraq values the international financial community’s support, in particular the UK and USA’s efforts in initiating the Iraq Economic Contacts Group.
The conversation was moderated by MP Mathew Offord and in participation of a wide audience, most notably, Sir Nicholas Soames, Sir Jeremy Greenstock (former Ambassador to USA & Iraq), Sir Michael Fallon(former Secretary of Defence), Rt Hon Alistair Burt(former Minister for M.E) and MP Tobias Elwood (Chair of the Defence Committee) among other respected delegations.
