Ambassador Mohammad Jaafar Al-Sadr received Mr. Bambos Charalambous, the MP for the Labour Party and Shadow Minister for the Middle East and North Africa

His Excellency Ambassador Mohammad Jaafar Al-Sadr received the Labour Party’s MP and Shadow Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Bambos Charalambous on May 23, 2023.

During the meeting, they discussed several issues including strengthening relations between Iraq and the United Kingdom, maintaining the communication and coordination between the Embassy and the party as well as the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, especially following the general UK’s elections that will take place later, in which, the party is likely to win.

The Ambassador emphasised the role the United Kingdom can play in the process of reconstruction in Iraq, encouraging the investments in Iraq, assisting in supporting the Iraqi Government’s endeavour to develop the infrastructure and improve the educational, health, agricultural and industrial sectors, water resource management, climate change and clean energy. Furthermore, His Excellency praised the party’s position in supporting the case for Palestine.

Mr Charalambous emphasised his party’s interest in Iraq and the region and praised the role Iraq has played in achieving stability, particularly in relation to its efforts against terrorism, as well as its mediation efforts between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Iran. Besides, Mr Charalambous emphasised the tripartite cooperation with Jordan and Egypt, explaining that the stability of the Middle East has a vital role in the stability of the world. He praised the efforts Iraq has played in combating terrorism and redressing the victims among the Yazidis and other components of the Iraqi people.
