Launch of the Academic and Scientific Cooperation Program Between Imam Ja’far Al-Sadiq (AS) University and Sunway University Malaysia

On Wednesday, 26 August 2026, Sunway University Malaysia hosted the launch of the operational phase of the joint academic and scientific cooperation program with Imam Ja’far Al-Sadiq (AS) University, in the presence of representatives from the Iraqi Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and both universities.

The Iraqi side was headed by the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Malaysia, Counselor Dr. Hudayfa Zead Mahmoud, accompanied by Counselor Ahmed Ghanim Al jburi and Cultural Attaché Dr. AbdulJaleel Muhammad Majeed, alongside the delegation from Imam Ja’far Al-Sadiq (AS) University headed by the Vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Faris Mihna, along with a number of academics and representatives from the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The event featured the announcement of the launch of the executive phase for the joint Master’s degree program between the two universities, which was prepared and coordinated over two years. This initiative aims to contribute to developing educational and research programs, elevating the academic standard, and enhancing the quality and prestige of scientific degrees at Imam Ja’far Al-Sadiq(AS) University.

The ceremony also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Joint AI Laboratory, aims to support scientific research and technological development, enhancing the collaboration between researchers and academics in both countries, particularly in artificial intelligence and modern technologies.

The Sunway University delegation was headed by the university’s President, Professor Seabrands Boobima, with the participation of a number of academic faculty members and researchers from the university.

The Iraqi Embassy in Kuala Lumpur emphasized that launching the program represents a qualitative step forward in academic and scientific cooperation between Iraq and Malaysia. It contributes to exchanging expertise and knowledge, opening new horizons for Iraqi students, researchers, and academics, and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The event concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photo session to document this scientific occasion, which marks a new milestone in Iraqi Malaysian.
