Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Meets Malaysia’s Iraq Desk Officer to Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Counselor Ahmed Ghanim Abdul-Jabbar, accompanied by First Secretary Ahmed Ali Jassim, met on 5 May 2026 with the Iraq Desk Officer at the Bilateral Relations Division (West Asia Section) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Ms. Maryam Masyita Ahmad Tarmizi, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Putrajaya.

The meeting focused on ways to further develop bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and to enhance prospects for cooperation across various fields of mutual interest.

Both sides reviewed the overall trajectory of Iraq–Malaysia relations and discussed means to elevate them to higher levels through intensified communication and the activation of joint cooperation mechanisms, in a manner that serves mutual interests and strengthens the framework of bilateral partnership.

During the discussions, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. briefed the Malaysian side on recent political developments in the Republic of Iraq, particularly the designation of Mr. Ali Al-Zubaidi to form the new government, underscoring the broad national, regional, and international attention this constitutional milestone has garnered as an important step in Iraq’s democratic process.

Both sides also emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and expanding areas of cooperation to further consolidate bilateral relations and advance them across various sectors of shared interest.

On her part, the Malaysian official expressed appreciation for the visit of the Chargé d’Affaires a.i., commending his commitment to strengthening engagement with officials of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She also reaffirmed Malaysia’s continued coordination with the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in support of the development of bilateral relations and the advancement of the common interests of both friendly countries.
