Strengthening Iraqi – Malaysian Academic and Educational Cooperation: Scholarships and Joint Initiatives with Universiti Tenaga Nasional.

The Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Mr. Ahmed Ghanim Abduljabbar, received at the premises of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur, on 7 April 2026, a high-level academic delegation from Universiti Tenaga Nasional, headed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Khairul Salleh Mohamed Sahari, within the framework of s strengthening scientific and academic cooperation between Iraq and Malaysia.

The delegation included Professor Dr. Izham Zainal Abidin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and International Affairs; Professor Dr. Vigna Kumaran Ramachandaramurthy, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation; Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Mat Isa, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student and Alumni Affairs; Dr. Nazrita Ibrahim, Director of the International Office; and Ms. Jorina Noor Din, Director of Marketing and Student Admissions.

During the meeting, the University announced the allocation of four academic scholarships to the Republic of Iraq in the fields of Information Technology, Engineering, and Business Administration. It was agreed that these scholarships would be referred to the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the nomination of eligible candidates in accordance with the approved criteria and requirements.

The meeting was attended by the Cultural Attaché, Dr. Abduljalil Mohammed Majeed, and the Deputy Cultural Attaché, Dr. Ammar Sabri Majeed, in addition to Iraqi academic Dr. Firas Al-Nuaimi, who holds an academic position at the University, reflecting the presence of Iraqi expertise within international academic institutions.

The Chargé d’Affaires a.i. expressed his appreciation to the University Vice – Chancellor and the accompanying delegation for this academic initiative, underscoring the importance of expanding cooperation in the fields of higher education and scientific research.

For his part, the Vice-Chancellor of the University extended an official invitation to the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. to visit the University’s campus and participate in an upcoming scientific conference scheduled for June, with a view to enhancing direct engagement and advancing academic partnerships between the two sides.

This meeting comes within the context of joint efforts to support scholarship programs and the exchange of scientific expertise, contributing to the advancement of academic standards and the development of human capacities, thereby further strengthening the constructive relations between the two friendly countries.
