The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur Discusses Strengthening Institutional Partnerships with PETRONAS in the Presence of Senior Officials

The Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Mr. Ahmed Ghanim Abduljabbar, met on 3 April 2026 with a number of officials from PETRONAS, in the presence of Mr. Ahmad Faridz Dzulkarnain, Senior Manager at the company.

The meeting took place within the framework of the Embassy’s efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation and expand economic partnerships between the two countries.

The Chargé d’Affaires a.i. commended the role played by the company in Iraq, particularly in the Garraf oil field in Thi Qar Province, which is considered one of the vital fields supporting the energy sector. He reaffirmed Baghdad’s appreciation for the efforts of international companies contributing to the development of this sector.

For their part, the company’s officials delivered a brief presentation on their activities in Iraq, highlighting what they described as the country’s accelerating economic growth and its attractive investment environment, which positions Iraq as a promising destination for investment opportunities. They also expressed the company’s interest in expanding its presence in the Iraqi market.

The Chargé d’Affaires a.i. proposed the formation of an official delegation from the company to visit Baghdad and hold meetings with the relevant government entities to explore future cooperation opportunities. He affirmed the Embassy’s readiness to provide logistical and coordination support in a manner that contributes to strengthening the partnership between both sides.

In turn, the company’s officials expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the Iraqi Embassy in facilitating communication with PETRONAS, underscoring their commitment to continued coordination and the development of economic cooperation prospects between the two countries.
