Chargé d’Affaires Meets Malaysian Foreign Ministry Official to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

The Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Republic of Iraq to Malaysia, Mr. Ahmed Ghanim Abduljabbar, met on 1 April 2026 with Ms. Maryam Masyitah Ahmad Termizi, Officer in Charge of the Iraq Desk at the Bilateral Relations Division (Asia Department) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Putrajaya.

At the outset of the meeting, the Chargé d’Affaires extended his congratulations to the Malaysian official on the occasion of assuming her new duties, wishing her success in managing the Iraq portfolio in a manner that would further strengthen cooperation between the two friendly countries.

The meeting reviewed prospects for advancing Iraqi–Malaysian relations across various fields of mutual interest, particularly in the economic, academic, and scientific sectors, as well as cooperation in cybersecurity, in line with current challenges and developments.

The Chargé d’Affaires underscored the importance of building on the partnerships established between Iraqi universities and their Malaysian counterparts, which were concluded in coordination with the Iraqi Cultural Attaché in Malaysia, stressing the need to expand such cooperation to enhance academic and knowledge exchange between the two countries.

On the economic front, he called for increasing the presence of Malaysian companies in the Iraqi market and benefiting from their advanced expertise in energy, infrastructure, construction, and technology, in support of Iraq’s development efforts.

Both sides also reviewed the overall trajectory of bilateral relations and discussed ways to elevate them to more advanced levels through intensified communication and the activation of joint cooperation mechanisms.

For her part, the Malaysian official expressed her appreciation for the visit of the Chargé d’Affaires, commending his keenness to maintain close engagement with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, and affirming continued coordination with the Embassy of Iraq to further develop bilateral relations and serve the mutual interests of both countries.
