Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur Discusses Prospects for Academic Cooperation with Universiti Islam Selangor.
The Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur, Counsellor Ahmed Ghanim Abdul Jabbar, met with the President of Universiti Islam Selangor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Farid Ravi Abdullah, to discuss avenues for strengthening academic and scientific cooperation between Iraqi and Malaysian universities.
The meeting was held at the university’s headquarters in the State of Selangor on 13 March 2026, in the presence of the Cultural Attaché, Dr. Abduljalil Mohammed Majeed, and a number of the university’s academics, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student and Alumni Affairs, Professor Dr. Abdul Razif bin Zaini.
During the meeting, the President of the University reviewed the key academic disciplines offered by the university, including Islamic studies and the Arabic language. He also referred to his previous academic ties with a number of Iraqi professors and expressed his desire to visit Iraq to learn more about its religious and historical landmarks and to meet with the presidents of Iraqi universities.
For his part, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. praised the academic standing of Universiti Islam Selangor, emphasizing the importance of expanding academic cooperation and activating memoranda of understanding between Iraqi and Malaysian universities, in a manner that would contribute to enhancing scientific and research exchange between the two countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of maintaining academic communication and developing scientific partnerships. The President of the University also indicated his intention to brief the Government of the State of Selangor on the outcomes of the meeting.
