The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur hosts the second Gathering of Prominent Figures and Professionals of the Iraqi Community in Malaysia.

On 7 March 2026, the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur hosted the second gathering of prominent figures and professionals of the Iraqi community in Malaysia during a Ramadan Iftar. The event brought together a distinguished group of academicians, researchers, physicians, and business leaders, as part of the Embassy’s efforts to strengthen engagement with Iraqi professionals and enhance their scientific and societal role.

On the sidelines of the Iftar, participants exchanged views on ways to support the Iraqi academic presence in Malaysia and to further enhance the contributions of Iraqi professionals in the fields of scientific research, economy, and knowledge.

In his remarks during the gathering, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Counselor Ahmed Ghanim Abduljabbar, noted that organizing such gatherings reflects the Embassy’s commitment to strengthening bridges of communication with Iraqi professionals abroad and recognizing their academic and professional contributions. He emphasized that the Iraqi community in Malaysia represents a distinguished model of Iraqi academic and professional presence in the region.

He further highlighted that such initiatives contribute to establishing a platform for dialogue and engagement between the Embassy and members of the Iraqi community, in a manner that helps leverage their academic and professional expertise to support academic and research cooperation between Iraq and educational institutions in Malaysia, in addition to supporting Iraqi students studying at Malaysian universities.

Discussions during the gathering also addressed a number of issues of importance to the Iraqi community, including strengthening networks of cooperation among Iraqi academicians, developing scientific and cultural initiatives, and exploring broader prospects for cooperation between universities and research centers in both countries.

Participants emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives that bring together Iraqi professionals abroad, as they provide valuable opportunities to exchange expertise and strengthen professional and academic ties, reflecting the esteemed standing of the Republic of Iraq within academic institutions at the international level. The organization of the second gathering of the prominent figures and professionals of the Iraqi community in Malaysia comes within the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to support the presence of the Iraqi community and enhance its role in strengthening cultural and scientific relations between Iraq and Malaysia.
