Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur Participates in the Celebrations of World Arabic Language Day 2025

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur participated in the official ceremony held on the occasion of World Arabic Language Day 2025, in response to the invitation extended by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in Rabat and the ICESCO Educational Centre in Malaysia, in cooperation with Selangor Islamic University.
The Embassy was represented at the event by the Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Counselor Ahmed Ghanim AbdulJabbar. The celebration was hosted at the main campus of Selangor Islamic University and witnessed the participation of a distinguished gathering of academics, researchers, and university students specializing in Arabic language, literature, and Islamic studies, in addition to a number of senior academic officials from Malaysian educational institutions.
The event commenced with an academic seminar addressing the significance of the Arabic language and its intellectual and cultural dissemination throughout the Malay Archipelago, delivered by Dr. Rahmah binti Ahmad H. Osman. The seminar highlighted the pivotal role of manuscripts and printing in consolidating the presence of the Arabic language and promoting Arab culture, as well as the profound interaction between Arabic literary heritage and Malay cultural texts. It also shed light on the impact of this interaction in preserving cultural identity and confronting the policies of cultural alienation experienced during the colonial era. The lecture further reviewed the contributions of prominent Malay scholars to the service of the Arabic language and its literature, foremost among them Sheikh Nurruddin  Al-Raniri and Sheikh Daud bin Abdullah al-Fatani.
Following the seminar, the main ceremony was held, during which the President of Selangor Islamic University, Professor Dr. Mohd Farid Ravi bin Abdullah, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the civilizational status of the Arabic language as the language of the Holy Qur’an and its central role in shaping cultural and intellectual awareness. He underscored the importance of strengthening its presence within academic institutions and enhancing cultural exchange between the Arab and Malay worlds, in a manner that reinforces bridges of communication and mutual understanding among peoples.
At the conclusion of the event, the President of Selangor Islamic University expressed his sincere appreciation to the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur for his participation in this important cultural occasion. He also affirmed the University’s keenness to expand avenues of academic cooperation with Iraqi universities in the coming period, in a way that contributes to strengthening Iraqi–Malaysian relations and supporting the presence of the Arabic language in Southeast Asia.
