The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur participated in the United Economic Summit 2025, organized by the United Diplomatic Council (UDC) under the patronage of the Member of Parliament for Klang, Selangor State, Mr. Ganabatirau Veraman, on 23 November 2025 in the city of Klang, west of Malaysia.
The Embassy was represented at the event by Mr. Ahmed Ghanim Abduljabbar, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., alongside representatives of several diplomatic missions accredited to Malaysia, officials from the Government of Selangor, as well as a distinguished group of business leaders and representatives of federations and chambers of commerce and industry from Asian and ASEAN countries.
The Summit focused on discussing the latest developments in economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Malaysia and its international partners. It also highlighted key partnership agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between Malaysian business federations and chambers of commerce and their counterparts from other countries.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Mr. Ahmed Ghanim Abduljabbar delivered a speech in which he expressed his appreciation to the Summit’s chair and the United Diplomatic Council for inviting the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq to participate in this important event. He affirmed that Iraq–Malaysia relations continue to witness remarkable progress across various fields, particularly in the economic sector, which has attracted increasing interest from Malaysian companies seeking to explore opportunities in Iraq’s promising market.
Mr. Abduljabbar also noted the growing number of Malaysian companies visiting the Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to learn about available investment opportunities in Iraq, especially in the sectors of energy, tourism, and healthcare. He further highlighted the significant activity of PETRONAS in Iraq, noting that it is one of the most prominent and active Malaysian companies operating in the Iraqi energy sector.
He also reviewed the efforts undertaken by the Embassy to finalize the procedures for signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, which aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand prospects for economic partnerships.
The Summit comes as part of Malaysia’s and its international partners’ efforts to enhance economic ties and expand investment opportunities in key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, technology, and energy—sectors that offer broad potential for establishing long-term strategic partnerships.
