The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur Responds to an Invitation from PETRONAS Malaysia

As part of efforts to strengthen economic and investment cooperation between Iraq and Malaysia, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Malaysia, Counselor Ahmed Ghanem Abdul Jabbar, responded on August 26, 2025, to the official invitation extended by PETRONAS, the Malaysian oil and gas company. The event was also attended by representatives from several diplomatic missions accredited in Kuala Lumpur, including the embassies of the Sultanate of Oman, the Italian Republic, the Kingdom of Sweden, and the Argentine Republic.

The meeting began with a welcome address by the company’s management, expressing appreciation to the participating embassies representatives for accepting the invitation. PETRONAS presented an overview of its economic and investment activities both within Malaysia and abroad, including its projects in Iraq’s Dhi Qar Governorate, where the company operates the Gharraf Oil Field — one of the key fields contributing to Iraq’s energy sector. The presentation also touched upon PETRONAS’s strategic partnerships with several major international companies in the fields of energy and technological development.

During the event, Counselor Ahmed Ghanem Abdul Jabbar met with a number of senior PETRONAS officials who had previously worked in the company’s Iraq branch, including Mr. Norazibah Md Rabu, General Manager of PETRONAS in the state of Sarawak; Mr. Ahmed Loqman Zainal Abidin, Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Group Strategic Relations and Communications; and Mr. Abu Hanzalah Abu Baker from the company’s Northern Communications Division.

The PETRONAS officials shared their positive experiences during their tenure in Iraq, commending the fruitful cooperation with the staff of the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, and praising the professionalism and hospitality of the Iraqi people. They also expressed the company’s keen interest in expanding its operations and investments in Iraq through new projects in the fields of energy, infrastructure, and engineering services.

For his part, Counselor Ahmed Ghanem Abdul Jabbar extended his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the company’s management for the invitation and warm reception. He praised PETRONAS for its commitment and dedication to continuing its investments in Iraq and reaffirmed the Embassy’s readiness to provide all possible support and facilitation for Malaysian companies wishing to operate in Iraq, in a way that strengthens bilateral cooperation and promotes sustainable economic development between the two friendly countries.
