The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur Participates in the Celebration of United Nations Day

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur, represented by the Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Counselor Ahmed Ghanem Abdul Jabbar, participated in the official celebration held on October 27, 2025, on the occasion of United Nations Day.          
“Malaysia and the United Nations: Our Shared Journey to Build the Future Together,”
coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and as part of the activities of the 47th ASEAN Summit, hosted in Malaysia from October 26 to 28, 2025.

The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, YAB Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof, alongside United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, senior officials from the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Malaysia.

In his address, the Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Malaysia’s steadfast commitment to the noble goals and principles of the United Nations, emphasizing the importance of promoting justice and equality among nations, strengthening international peace and security, and combating all forms of racial discrimination. He also highlighted Malaysia’s contributions to UN activities, noting that over 30,000 Malaysian peacekeepers have served in international peacekeeping missions since the 1950s — from the Congo to Lebanon — in addition to Malaysia’s active role in humanitarian and relief efforts. He further reiterated Malaysia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, stressing the need to enable the Palestinian people to attain their legitimate rights in accordance with international legitimacy and UN resolutions.

For his part, UN Secretary-General António Guterres praised the depth of partnership and close cooperation between Malaysia and the United Nations, commending Malaysia’s significant role in supporting sustainable development goals, humanitarian relief, and assistance to affected communities, particularly the Palestinian and Rohingya peoples. Guterres described Malaysia’s foreign policy as principled, balanced, and free from double standards. At the conclusion of the ceremony, a video presentation was shown highlighting Malaysia’s major contributions to UN initiatives and its joint programs in the fields of sustainable development, reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to continued collaboration with UN specialized agencies toward achieving a more sustainable, just, and prosperous future for the global community.
