Head of Europe Department Receives Russian Ambassador to Iraq

Head of Europe Department Ambassador Haider Al Athari, received Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq Mr. Elbrus Kutrashev, at the Ministry’s headquarters, on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Ambassador Al Athari offered condolences and sympathy to the Russian Ambassador over the terrorist attack that occurred recently in a commercial center on the outskirts of Moscow, which resulted in the killing of more than 137 and the injury of dozens of civilians, indicating that Iraq suffered from terrorism in which thousands of people were killed, but it could not diminish the firm determination of the Iraqis to fight terrorism and achieve victory.

On his part, Ambassador Kutrashev expressed his gratitude and thanks for the condolences and sympathy offered by Ambassador Al Athari, stressing that such terrorist acts will not discourage Russia and countries suffering from terrorism from fighting it.

In addition to they discussed bilateral relations and ways of promoting them, as well as regional and international issues.

The two sides agreed to continue contacts to hold the meetings of the tenth session of the Iraqi-Russian Joint Commission during the near future, and to accelerate finalizing the agreements and memorandums of understanding that are under study, with the hope of signing what was finalized during the meetings of the above session, and the exchange of visits and delegations to participate in the forums and conferences held between Iraq and Russia at the highest levels, reflecting the depth of historical relations, which will mark the 80th anniversary of its establishment during this year.
