Ambassador meets the Russian Deputy Minister of Justice

On March 5, 2020, Ambassador Dr. Abdulrahman Hamid Al-Hussaini met Mr. Mikhail Kalperin, Russian Deputy Minister of Justice, to discuss the bilateral relations.

At the beginning of the meeting, the two parties discussed the future steps to sign the Agreement for the exchange of the convicts between the Republic of Iraq and the Russian Federation, stressing on that signing of such agreements reflects the extent of the mutual trust and the bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries.

The parties also discussed the conditions of two Iraqi prisoners in Russia and the conditions of Iraqi detainees who have not yet been issued judicial rulings. The Russian Deputy Minister of Justice said that as a first initiative that reflects the goodwill the Russian side is ready to hand over to the Iraqi side the two Iraqi prisoners convicted in Russia. He also promised to follow up all cases of the Iraqi detainees in Russia and their resolution within the Russian courts
