The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur Commemorates the Tenth Anniversary of the Yazidi Genocide
In implementation of the directives of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur organized a memorial at the embassy’s premises on Monday, August 5, 2024, attended by embassy staff, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the genocide and crimes against humanity committed by the terrorist organization ISIS against the Iraqi people, particularly the Yazidi community and other minorities. On this occasion, the Chargé d’Affaires, Mohamed Faleh Hamoud, delivered a speech in which he highlighted the heinous crime and inhumane atrocities committed by terrorists against our people, which did not distinguish between men and women, children or the elderly. These acts aimed to end their existence through killing, displacement, erasing their identity, destroying their culture, and raping their women, among other horrific atrocities. This crime represented one of the most atrocious crimes witnessed by the world in contemporary history.
The Chargé d’Affaires added that the Iraqi government issued the Yazidi Survivors Law No. (8) of 2021, which designates August 3 of each year as a national day to commemorate the genocide of minorities, especially the Yazidis. Through this law, the government sought to restore the basic rights of the Yazidi minorities by compensating them morally and materially, in the belief that the government should heal the wounds caused by the crimes of ISIS.
