The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Islamabad meets with the Pakistani Minister of Maritime Affairs.


H.E. Mr. Hamid Abbas Lafta, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Islamabad, on 27/10/2020, paid a courtesy call upon Mr. Ali Haider Zaidi, Minister of Maritime Affairs, at the Ministry’s headquarters.
Both sides talked about coordination and cooperation in maritime affairs focusing upon the importance of Iraqi and Pakistani ports and their impact on the economies of the two countries.
Both sides also discussed the possibility of opening a sea transport line between the Pakistani ports of Gwadar and Karachi and the Iraqi ports of Umm Qasr and Faw, regarding facilitating the transportation of Pakistani visitors who intend to visit Iraq.
Mr. Ali affirmed his country’s desire to extend bridges of cooperation with Iraq with regard to maritime transport, noticing that the idea of ​​opening the transport line had received the attention of the Pakistani Cabinet.
