International Organizations

Iraq’s representation in international organizations continued from September 2003, Iraq has succeeded in regaining its place in most multilateral organizations, including the following:

– League of Arab States

– United Nations General Assembly

– Organization of Islamic Cooperation

– Non-Aligned Movement

– The Group of  77

– International Monetary Fund

– The World Bank

– United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO(

– The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

– World Trade Organization (WTO)

– The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) OPEC).

The League of Arab States

  The League of Arab States is a regional organization that consists of 22 Arab countries working within the framework of joint Arab action as collective institution for all Arab activities in the political, economic, security and cultural fields, based in Cairo, Egypt.

The United Nations General Assembly

The General Assembly is the principal representative organ for deliberation and policy-making in the United Nations; it consists of all the 193 Members of the United Nations, the General Assembly is a unique multilateral forum in which all international issues included by the Charter are discussed.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is considered the second largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations, with 57 member states spread over four continents, the Organization is considered the collective voice of the Muslim world and seeks to safeguard and express its interests in order to promote international peace and harmony among the various peoples of the world.

Non-Aligned Movement

The Non-Aligned Movement was one of the consequences of the Second World War (1939-1945) and a direct result of the Cold War that escalated between the Western (USA and NATO) and the Eastern Blocs  (the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact) The goal of the movement is to move away from Cold War policies.

The Group of 77

The G-77 is an alliance of a group of developing countries; the goal of this group is to promote the economic interests of its member states, as well as to create a common negotiating capacity within the United Nations.

International Monetary Fund

The International Monetary Fund is a specialized agency of the Bretton Woods system, established by an international treaty in 1945 to promote the safety of the global economy, the headquarter of the  Fund is based in Washington D.C, and is administered by its members who consist of 186 country.

The World Bank

The World Bank is a United Nations specialized agency dealing with development, the World Bank began its work with the helping reconstruction in Europe after World War II.

UNESCO

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has been working since its founding in 1945 in Paris to find the right conditions for launching dialogue among civilizations, cultures and peoples on the basis of respect for common values.

UNCTAD

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), provides within its technical cooperation activities, assistance to the developing countries, giving particular concern to the needs of the least developed countries and developing countries most in need.

World Trade Organization (WTO)

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is a global organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, whose primary mission is to ensure the easiest flow of trade; it is the only international organization dealing with international laws on trade between nations, The World Trade Organization has 157 members from around the world.

OPEC

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) OPEC) consist of 12 highly oil-dependent countries that is highly dependent on its oil exports, Its name is abbreviated to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and OPEC members are working to increase revenues from the sale of oil in the world market, It was founded in Baghdad in 1960 by Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Venezuela, and its headquarter is in Vienna.
