High-level meeting chaired by Dr. Dylan Ghufour Saleh – Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee discusses enhancing bilateral relations between Iraq and Romania.
Charge d’Affaires Dr. Alaa Al-Saadi, met with Mr. Nicolae Comănescu, the State Advisor for Foreign Affairs of Romania, on Monday, March 18, 2024.
The meeting focused on the importance of signing agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries, as there are still 12 agreements and memoranda of understanding in various fields awaiting signature. The Romanian side confirmed their readiness to welcome the Iraqi Prime Minister for a visit and complete the signing procedures.
The delegation from the Foreign Relations Committee emphasized the need for practical steps to implement the proposals put forward by the Iraqi side, including areas of investment, energy, reconstruction, scientific exchange, and cultural exchange.
Mr. Nicolae Comănescu reiterated the Romanian government’s continued support for Iraq and its commitment to overcoming obstacles, especially in light of the stable security situation in Iraq. Regarding the opening of direct airline routes, he mentioned that the Romanian Airlines company is undergoing restructuring, which opens the door to discussing this matter.
At the end of the meeting, both sides affirmed their commitment to continued direct and practical communication to achieve the best results in developing relations and serving the interests of both countries.
