Head of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences Meets Director of the Office of the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (UNESCO) in Baghdad
On May 15, 2022, the head of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences, Dr Abbas Kadhum Obaid, met Mr Paolo Fontani, Director of the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (UNESCO) office in Baghdad, at the Ministry’s headquarter.
During the meeting, they discussed the common topics between Iraq and UNESCO, including those related to providing support to Iraqi institutions relevant to the Organisation’s work. Head of the Department of International Organisations and Conferences commended the role and tasks of the UNESCO office in Iraq in contributing to the preservation of the Iraqi cultural heritage through projects and initiatives to restore and rehabilitate archaeological sites destroyed by ISIS, confirming the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide all support for UNESCO’s work in Iraq and in coordination with the Iraqi concerned ministries.
On his part, Mr Fontane emphasized the endeavour and continuation of UNESCO’s projects to rebuild and rehabilitate the archaeological sites and build the national capacities in this field.
