Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Receives Sudanese Ambassador at the End of His Tenure

H.E. Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein received, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Iraq, Mr. Abdul Rahim Sar Al-Khatim Abdul Rahman, on the occasion of the conclusion of his diplomatic tenure, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Baghdad.

H.E. the Minister expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts made by the Ambassador during his tenure in Iraq and his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries. He affirmed Iraq’s commitment to continuing to develop these relations and expand opportunities for joint cooperation across various fields.

H.E. the Minister reiterated Iraq’s firm position in support of Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as its support for Sudan’s legitimate institutions. He stressed the importance of ending the conflict through dialogue and peaceful solutions in a manner that preserves the country’s unity and achieves security and stability for the brotherly Sudanese people.

H.E. the Minister affirmed that, during Iraq’s presidency of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iraq would work to support initiatives aimed at addressing the issues and challenges facing member states, particularly the crisis in Sudan. These efforts would reinforce regional and international initiatives seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict and the restoration of security and stability in Sudan.

H.E. the Minister also noted that an Iraqi committee would travel to Sudan in the near future to assess the situation and identify the requirements for reopening the Iraqi Embassy and resuming its operations, paving the way for the appointment of an Iraqi ambassador to Sudan. This reflects Iraq’s commitment to strengthening its diplomatic presence and consolidating bilateral relations with Sudan.

At the conclusion of the meeting, H.E. the Minister wished the Sudanese Ambassador success in his future assignments, reaffirming Iraq’s continued support for Sudan and its brotherly people, as well as its commitment to strengthening fraternal relations and joint cooperation between the two countries.
