Foreign Minister Reaffirms Iraq’s Firm Support for the Palestinian Cause During Meeting with Palestinian Counterpart

Foreign Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Fuad Hussein, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine, Ms. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, on Sunday, 18 October 2026, on the sidelines of the 52nd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Baghdad.

Ms. Shahin congratulated Iraq on the successful organization of the session and its assumption of the presidency of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

During the meeting, Mr. Fuad Hussein reaffirmed Iraq’s steadfast position in supporting the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The two sides also discussed the conditions of Palestinians residing in Iraq, the legal challenges they face, and ways to address these issues in a manner that would help regularize their status in accordance with the applicable legal frameworks.

The meeting further addressed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries across various fields, in a way that serves their mutual interests and reinforces the fraternal ties between the Iraqi and Palestinian peoples.
