FM Meets Bangladeshi State Minister for Foreign Affairs; Sign Two MoUs to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, met on Saturday, 17 October 2026, with the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr Humayun Kabir, on the sidelines of the 52nd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Baghdad.
The meeting addressed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop them and strengthen cooperation across various fields in a manner that serves their mutual interests. The two sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern and underscored the importance of continuing coordination and consultation.
The meeting witnessed the signing of two memoranda of understanding between the two countries. The first concerns the mutual exemption of holders of diplomatic and official passports from entry visa requirements, while the second provides for the establishment of a mechanism for regular political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
Both sides emphasised the importance of the two memoranda in strengthening bilateral cooperation frameworks, enhancing channels of communication and political consultation, and facilitating travel for holders of passports covered by the visa-exemption memorandum. These steps are expected to contribute to consolidating diplomatic relations between the Republic of Iraq and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and opening up broader prospects for joint cooperation.
