FM Fuad Hussein Meets U.S. Special Envoy for Iraq and Syria in Türkiye

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, met on Saturday, 10 October 2026, with the U.S. Presidential Special Envoy for Iraq and Syria, Ambassador Tom Barrack, in Istanbul, Türkiye.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the United States of America in the current phase, in light of the conclusion of the International Coalition’s mission in Iraq, as well as prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the coming period.

The meeting also addressed developments in the region, ongoing conflicts and their implications for security and stability in Iraq and other countries in the region. The two sides also discussed Iraq’s financial and economic situation and developments concerning the exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar.

Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining communication and consultations and holding joint meetings in a manner that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on issues of mutual interest.
