FM Receives British Ambassador to Iraq
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, received on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Iraq, Mr Irfan Siddiq.
The Minister commended the level of bilateral relations between Iraq and the United Kingdom, affirming Iraq’s aspiration to continue developing cooperation and coordination between the two countries, particularly in light of the formation of the new British Government.
During the meeting, Mr Fuad Hussein reviewed the key outcomes of his recent visit to New York and Washington and the meetings he held there. He also discussed developments related to the confrontation between the United States and Iran and ongoing contacts aimed at de-escalation, stressing the importance of preventing further tension and instability in the region.
The Minister also addressed developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz and their repercussions for maritime navigation, energy security and global markets, as well as the impact of regional developments on oil prices and the importance of ensuring stable energy flows.
The Minister further referred to the Iraqi Government’s efforts to strengthen state authority and place weapons under the control of the state, and to address this issue in a measured and responsible manner that preserves security and stability.
For his part, the British Ambassador affirmed his country’s keenness to continue consultations and coordination with Iraq and support efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability and reducing tensions in the region.
