FM Receives Russian Ambassador at End of His Tenure in Iraq
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, received the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Iraq on Monday, 5 October 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad, on the occasion of the conclusion of his tenure as Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq.
During the meeting, the Russian Ambassador expressed his thanks and appreciation to Iraq, its Government and people, for the warm hospitality and cooperation he received throughout his five-year tenure. He affirmed that Iraq holds a special place in his heart and that his service in Baghdad had given him the opportunity to visit most of the Iraqi governorates and gain first-hand insight into Iraqi society.
For his part, the Minister commended the efforts made by the Ambassador during his tenure, affirming that Iraqi-Russian relations had witnessed significant development in recent years and that the Ambassador’s contribution had played a role in strengthening communication and cooperation between the two countries.
The two sides also discussed the ongoing preparations for the meetings of the Iraqi-Russian Joint Committee, scheduled to be held at the end of next December, as well as the Arab-Russian Dialogue Forum, which is scheduled to take place during the same period. The Minister was invited to participate in the Forum’s proceedings.
The meeting also addressed a number of bilateral issues of common interest, with both sides affirming the importance of continuing to follow up on these issues and coordinate with the relevant authorities in the two countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the Russian Ambassador during his tenure in Iraq, wishing him success in his future assignments, affirming Iraq’s keenness to continue developing its relations with the Russian Federation and strengthening bilateral cooperation in a manner that serves the shared interests of the two countries.
