FM Chairs Meeting to Follow Up on Iraq’s Preparations to Host OIC Foreign Ministers’ Conference

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, chaired a meeting on Monday, 5 October 2026, to review the latest preparations and arrangements for Iraq’s hosting of the 52nd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.

The Minister stressed the importance of the conference, noting that it represents an opportunity to introduce guests to the reality of Iraq, underscoring the particular significance of assuming the presidency of the conference at the regional and international levels, as well as among the OIC member states.

Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Legal Affairs, Ambassador Shorsh Khalid Saeed, presented a briefing on the committee’s key activities, particularly the logistical and technical preparations and arrangements for receiving the official delegations participating in the conference, highlighting the importance of launching the official platform dedicated to the conference, which was inaugurated by H.E. the Minister prior to the meeting, as well as cooperation and coordination with various government institutions.

The Deputy Minister noted that, in consultation with the Ministry’s deputies and political departments at the Ministry’s headquarters, the committee had contributed to drafting the “Baghdad Declaration.” He also noted the completion of the conference’s guide, which will be provided to participating delegations, as well as the arrangements for the media centre and the main conference hall.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Legal Affairs, Ambassador Shorsh Khalid Saeed; Lieutenant General Hadi Razij Kassar, Deputy Minister of Interior for Police Affairs and Chairman of the Security Committee; the Director General of Personal Protection; a representative of the Protocol Department at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers; the heads of the Protocol and Organisations Departments; Ambassador Hasanein Kamel, the official spokesperson for the conference; the Assistant Head of the Media Department; and a representative of the Iraqi Media Network.
