H.E. Minister of Foregin Affairs Concludes Visit to New York Following an Intensive Programme of International Meetings and Engagements

H.E. Minister of Foregin Affairs Mr Fuad Hussein has concluded his visit to New York, which took place from 21 to 25 September 2026 on the occasion of his participation in the work of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The visit featured an intensive programme of diplomatic meetings, engagements and activities.

During the visit, H.E. Minister of Foregin Affairs held 19 bilateral meetings, including meetings with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres; the President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dr Khalil Al-Rahman; and the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed. H.E Mr Fuad Hussein also met with a number of officials and foreign ministers from the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, Canada, Switzerland and the Netherlands, as well as officials from Iran, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Morocco, Bulgaria and the Republic of Maldives.

At the same time, H.E. Prime Minister Mr Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi’s programme during the visit included 15 meetings with a number of international leaders and officials. Among the most prominent were H.E’.s meetings with the President of the United States, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the Presidents of Iran and Türkiye, the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, and the Prime Minister of Egypt, in addition to a number of regional leaders and officials, including the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, and the Prime Minister of Lebanon.

H.E. The Minister also participated in a number of multilateral meetings and events, including the Ministerial Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab–Islamic Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem, the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of 77 and China, and the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the Arab–African Partnership Coordination Committee. H.E. The Minister also delivered statements on behalf of the Republic of Iraq at a number of meetings and gave a television interview addressing key regional and international issues.

H.E. Mr Fuad Hussein affirmed that Iraq is pursuing a balanced diplomacy, remaining open to all, building its relations on the basis of mutual interests and respect, and working to strengthen its role as a bridge for dialogue and stability in the region.

H.E. The Minister noted that Iraq’s participation in New York reflected the unity of its national position and its diversity, as well as its aspiration to be an active partner in consolidating stability and cooperation, rather than becoming an arena for conflicts.

The meetings and engagements held by the Minister addressed bilateral relations and ways of developing them, in addition to developments in the regional and international situations and issues of common interest, as well as ways of strengthening cooperation and coordination on these matters in a manner that serves Iraq’s interests and supports security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
