FM Meets OIC Secretary-General and Calls for Active Participation in Baghdad Session
H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, met with H.E. Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, on Friday, 25 September 2026, in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Minister congratulated the Secretary-General on assuming his duties, affirming Iraq’s support for the OIC and its commitment to strengthening its role in supporting Arab and Islamic causes.
Mr Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq’s readiness to host the 52nd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC member states, scheduled to be held in Baghdad on 17 and 18 October 2026, noting that logistical and security preparations for the session had been completed, in addition to receiving a delegation from the OIC General Secretariat to review the ongoing preparations and arrangements.
The Minister also called on the member states to actively participate in the session, stressing the importance of ensuring its success in a manner that strengthens joint Islamic action.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between Iraq and the OIC and exchanged views on a number of issues of common interest, affirming the importance of continuing consultation and joint action in a manner that serves the objectives of the Organisation and strengthens solidarity among its member states.
